01 — Friday NightCocktails downtown
Check in, claim bedrooms, and let the porch do its work — golden hour with a glass of something cold is the official start of the weekend. Then head downtown for round one.
The Atomic Lounge
Famous for costumes, theatrical drinks, and a room that turns strangers into friends. It's the single most fun cocktail bar in Alabama, and it knows it.

02 — Saturday MorningBrunch and the market
Two directions, both excellent. Option one: walk into Five Points South for a big Southern breakfast — the district's brunch rooms handle groups well if you arrive on the early side. Option two: drive ten minutes to Homewood, the metro's best brunch neighborhood, where patios and coffeehouses line a walkable downtown.

Birmingham's beloved farmers market, ringed by coffee shops and studios. A low-effort, high-reward group stop: flowers, peaches, biscuits, people-watching.
03 — Saturday AfternoonChoose your adventure
The spa-and-shopping track. Mountain Brook Village and Homewood's 18th Street are the two prettiest shopping strolls in the metro — boutiques, bookshops, and ice cream within a few blocks. Book spa or nail appointments a couple of weeks ahead for groups of six or more.
The culture track. The Birmingham Museum of Art downtown is free and excellent; Birmingham Botanical Gardens offers 67 acres of themed gardens made for slow walks and group photos; and Vulcan Park — right above the estate — has the best panoramic view of the city, worth saving for sunset.
The "we're here to have fun" track. Build a mini brewery crawl through Avondale and downtown, or don't leave at all: the estate's private half-acre fits lawn games, a hired private chef, or a mobile bartender, and nobody has to call a rideshare.

04 — Saturday NightThe big dinner
This is the night to book something memorable, and Birmingham's marquee dining rooms reward planning. Make one reservation for the whole table two to three weeks out — most of the city's best rooms will seat large parties early in the evening. Afterward, the night naturally forks: live music downtown for some, the porch for the rest — which is exactly why a whole-house stay beats a hotel block.
